What Is Transmission Fluid?
Transmission fluid helps lubricate the different bearings and parts inside a gearbox.
Automatic transmission fluid can also help with torque converter operation, valve body operation, clutch friction operations, brake band friction, and transmission cooling.
Getting your transmission fluid serviced regularly can help extend the life of your vehicle and help keep the gearbox cool.
What Happens If I Don’t Change My Transmission Oil?
The main thing that happens if you don't change your transmission fluid is that the system can overheat and cause transmission failure.
It can also cause gear slippage, which can cause sudden gear changes when driving.
Over time, this can result in costly repairs to the automatic transmission.
Is It Worth Getting A Gearbox Service?
Absolutely, it is very important to service your automatic gearbox.
We recommend servicing your vehicle between 40,000 – 60,000 miles depending on the make, model and if you tow heavy loads.
If you drive in adverse weather conditions or experience frequent city traffic, you might consider changing your transmission fluid at more regular intervals.
A service on the automatic gearbox usually takes between 2-3 hours and we use all OEM and ZF parts.

Absolutely cannot rate the team at VMTP highly enough.
I picked up a T5 transporter with an automatic box. Very quickly started showing signs of being very poorly. Not engaging gears and over revving.
Not only did VMTP sort the absolute lot! (on a gearbox that parts are bloody hard to get hold of no less) they sorted the recovery of the van for me, and kept everything as reasonable as possible price wise given the complexity of the fix. With constant updates to boot.
